THE 7 BEST ROSACEA TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR 2024
What is rosacea anyway?
Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that affects more than 16 million Americans. The cause of rosacea is still unknown, and there is no cure. However, research has allowed doctors to find ways to treat the condition by minimizing its symptoms. There are four subtypes of rosacea. Each subtype has its own set of symptoms. It is possible to have more than one subtype of rosacea at a time.
Rosacea’s trademark symptom is small, red, pus-filled bumps on the skin that are present during flare-ups. Typically, rosacea affects only skin on your nose, cheeks, and forehead. Flare-ups often occur in cycles. This means that you will experience symptoms for weeks or months at a time, the symptoms will go away, and then return.
The four types of rosacea are:
- Subtype one, known as erythematotelangiectatic rosacea (ETR), is associated with facial redness, flushing, and visible blood vessels.
- Subtype two, papulopustular (or acne) rosacea, is associated with acne-like breakouts, and often affects middle-aged women.
- Subtype three, known as rhinophyma, is a rare form associated with thickening of the skin on your nose. It usually affects men and is often accompanied by another subtype of rosacea.
- Subtype four is known as ocular rosacea, and its symptoms are centered on the eye area.
Symptoms of rosacea
Rosacea symptoms are different between each subtype.
Signs of rosacea ETR:
- flushing and redness in the center of your face
- visible broken blood vessels
- swollen skin
- sensitive skin
- stinging and burning skin
- dry, rough, and scaly skin
Signs of acne rosacea:
- acne-like breakouts and very red skin
- oily skin
- sensitive skin
- broken blood vessels that are visible
- raised patches of skin
Signs of thickening skin:
- bumpy skin texture
- thick skin on nose
- thick skin on chin, forehead, cheeks, and ears
- large pores
- visible broken blood vessels
Signs of ocular rosacea:
- bloodshot and watery eyes
- eyes that feel gritty
- burning or stinging sensation in the eyes
- dry, itchy eyes
- eyes that are sensitive to light
- cysts on eyes
- diminished vision
- broken blood vessels on eyelids
What Causes Rosacea?
The cause of rosacea has not been determined. It may be a combination of hereditary and environmental factors. It is known that some things may make your rosacea symptoms worse. These include:
- eating spicy foods
- eating items that contain the compound cinnamaldehyde, such as cinnamon, chocolate, tomatoes, and citrus
- drinking hot coffee or tea
- having the intestinal bacteria Helicobacter pylori
- a skin mite called demodex and the bacterium it carries, Bacillus oleronius
- the presence of cathelicidin (a protein that protects the skin from infection)
What Are The Risk Factors For Rosacea?
Risk factors for rosacea include:
- There are some factors that will make you more likely to develop rosacea than others. Rosacea often develops in people between the ages of 30 and 50. It is also more common in people who are fair-skinned and have blond hair and blue eyes.
- There are also genetic links to rosacea. You are more likely to develop rosacea if you have a family history of the condition or if you have Celtic or Scandinavian ancestors. Women are also more likely to develop the condition than men. However, men who develop the condition often have more severe symptoms.
How do I know if I have rosacea?
Your doctor can easily diagnose rosacea from a physical examination of your skin. They may refer you to a dermatologist who can determine whether you have rosacea or another skin condition.
How can I control my symptoms?
- Rosacea cannot be cured, but you can take steps to control your symptoms.
- Make sure to take care of your skin using gentle cleansers and oil-free, water-based skin-care products.
- Shop for oil-free facial creams and moisturizers.
Avoid products that contain:
- alcohol
- menthol
- witch hazel
- exfoliating agents
These ingredients may irritate your symptoms.
Your doctor will work with you to develop a treatment plan. This is usually a regimen of antibiotic creams and oral antibiotics.
Other management steps include:
- avoiding direct sunlight and wearing sunscreen
- avoiding drinking alcohol
- using lasers and light treatment to help with some severe cases of rosacea
- microdermabrasion treatments to reduce thickening skin
- taking eye medicines and antibiotics for ocular rosacea
Coping with rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that you will need to learn to manage. It can be difficult to cope with a chronic condition. Get support by finding support groups or online message boards. Connecting with other people who have rosacea can help you feel less alone.
Rosacea Medication
Oral Medication for Rosacea
A dermatologists may recommend a combination of topical medications and oral medications to treat patients with rosacea. Oral medications are taken by mouth and are particularly useful in treating people who have symptoms—such as blemishes or whiteheads—that are resistant to topical medications.
Oral Antibiotics
The class of antibiotics known as tetracyclines can have potent anti-inflammatory effects. Your doctor may recommend these oral antibiotics to help clear your skin of the blemishes caused by rosacea, as well as to lessen the redness and swelling.
A low dose of a tetracycline keeps it below the antibiotic threshold, meaning the medication does not stop the growth of bacteria but can work as an anti-inflammatory treatment. These nonantibiotic doses of a tetracycline, such as doxycycline, can be used as long-term rosacea treatment without heightening your risk of developing a resistance to antibiotics. Side effects may include an upset stomach, rash, sun sensitivity, or allergic reactions.
Oral Isotretinoin (Isotroin)
Isotretinoin is a medication taken by mouth that can help to lessen the amount of skin blemishes caused by rosacea. These blemishes include pustules, or whiteheads, and papules, which are small red bumps. Isotretinoin focuses on these oil-producing glands in your skin, shrinking them so that less oil is produced, therefore reducing the chances that your pores may become clogged.
Oral isotretinoin was previously marketed under the brand name Accutane® but is now only available as a generic medication.
This medication is usually prescribed for several weeks to months, with many people seeing a reduction in the number of blemishes after four weeks. Each month your dermatologist examines your skin to assess how well the medication is working before making a recommendation about further treatment. Blood tests are often done to monitor for side effects, including liver toxicity.
Research suggests that isotretinoin can cause birth defects if women take the medication while pregnant. As a precaution, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has created the iPLEDGE™ distribution program, which requires that people taking medications with isotretinoin register with this program to fill the prescription. Women must also agree to use birth control throughout treatment.
Rosacea Treatments (Prescription)
The following prescription rosacea treatments are approved by the FDA for the treatment of rosacea, in addition to light devices and surgical procedures for certain signs and symptoms. Because rosacea is a disorder with various potential signs and symptoms, each case is unique unto each individual, and what works for one patient may not necessarily be right for another. Therefore, the doctor will arrange the treatment individually and, in many cases, a combination of treatments may be necessary to achieve the best rosacea results. Talk to your doctor about the best treatment for you, and make sure you use the medicine carefully and regularly.
For a complete overview of the National Rosacea Society Expert Committee’s assessment of available treatments to address the disease’s signs and symptoms, also known as phenotypes, the NRS offers the Standard Management Options for Rosacea as a free patient handout.
The FDA has approved the prescription medications on the list below to treat rosacea, along with light therapy and surgery for specific indications and symptoms. Since rosacea is a condition with a wide range of possible signs and symptoms, every patient’s experience is unique, and what works for one may not work for another. As a result, the physician will modify each patient’s course of care individually. Combination therapy may also be required in many situations to achieve the best results. Consult your physician about the best course of action for you, and remember to take your medication as prescribed.

Affordable alternative
I purchased this from chemist direct because my country has excessive prescription costs and I’m only able to purchase with insurance and a script in my country. If I were to use my script insurance and pharmacy in my country the cost of this product would be over 200$usd. Thank you for helping me care for myself in an affordable way. I purchase one tube per year and it lasts me a very long time. Maintenance use one time per week does it for me. White cream product, mild scent of medicine

A beautiful, effective product
An elegantly formulated, fast penetrating and effective product. Appears as a light white lotion-gel, it absorbs quickly and leaves a matte finish. Apply too much and you will end up with white patches but a thin layer is more than enough. I find this completely non-irritating on my dry, sensitive, thin skin and it has reduced redness, roughness and pustules from rosacea. As a side effect it is slowly reducing some patches of melasma too but a higher concentration would be more effective for pigmentation. Overall this is a brilliant product formulated with a very underrated ingredient (azelaic acid). We are very lucky to be able to get this without a prescription in Australia so stock up! Yes, I recommend this product.

Review from East Coast USA

I was prescribed this medication for hormonal acne. I live in the USA, which everyone knows has one of the WORST healthcare/medical insurance systems for a “developed” country. It costs about $250 here, so obviously, this is a better choice. In regards to the actual product, Finacea, I absolutely LOVE it. However, you cannot be stingy with it; you really have to apply a liberal amount. This has been the ONLY thing that has helped my cystic hormonal acne, and believe me I have tried everything except Accutane. Everything. Shipping takes about 2 weeks to the East Coast, USA, so plan accordingly. Yes ,I recommend this product.

US rosacea sufferers — get this!
This tube costs hundreds of dollars in the US. With shipping, I think I paid about US$30 for this from Chemist Direct. I’ve been using this cream every night for about a year (and a tube lasts about that long) and can confidently say that Azelaic acid –– plus eliminating the standard triggers (heat, sun, etc) — has saved my skin. While my skin isn’t flawless like it used to be, you would never know that I have rosacea. I have sensitive skin, so I don’t wash my face at night as washing plus AA can cause stinging. I just put a thin layer of this all over my face and go to bed. In the morning I wash with water and use a tiny bit of Avene moisturizer. That’s my whole skin routine. Yes,I recommend this product.

Love it. Definitely repurchase.

Bought this from CHEMIST DIRECT AU. I love it. I used The Ordinary azelaic acid suspension before, and did not see any changes on the skin. But this AzA tube makes the skin smoother, glowy and delivers what AzA ingredient is known to do. I’ll be repurchasing this later. Oh and international shipping to South Korea took about two weeks. Yes,I recommend this product. Smaller than expected, but a small blob spreads on the whole face.

Here in the US, all of a sudden, the price of this Rx skyrocketed to like $250 my COPAY & I have pretty darn good health insurance – long story short, I quit using it and got a cheaper one, but it’s only 1%. Didn’t work at all & my face got progressively worse & downright embarrassing. I was desperate, so my sister in law gave me a few links, Canada & Australia. I took an amazing trip to Australia in 08, so I HAD to choose Australia. Had no idea (or faith) that it would come, first of all, and then no real hope that it would actually be THE Rx…slowly but surely, my face is getting back to how it used to be. I will be a return customer for sure. Yes ,I recommend this product.

Never Stop Selling Finacea, Please!
So happy I found Chemist Direct! As many know, prescription insurance in the US is ridiculous! It cost $303.00 for one 50 gram tube here. But at Chemist Direct, it is so affordable that I don’t have to worry anymore! I’ve been using and been prescribed Finacea for over 20 years for my rosacea and more recently, my peri-menopausal cystic acne. It keeps the redness under control from the rosacea and helps slightly with the acne. So please, never stop selling Finacea! Yes,I recommend this product.

Being ill is always a worry even more so when it happens late evening or near the weekend. After trying a mild remedy I realised I needed a stronger medication which was swiftly prescribed and on its way. This was such a relief, I felt better after taking a first dose and won’t need the meds for longer than 3 days.

Cannot fault this service. I got advice on the dosage of the medication I wanted and it arrived the next morning at 9.30am. Would recommend to anyone and especially as I couldn’t get an appointment at my doctors for 10days for the antibiotics. I was able to start the treatment straight away.

Mirvaso has given me my confidence back. I have suffered with rosacea for years. My doctor recommended Mirvaso and this stuff really works! I had to experiment with the dosing a little…you cannot put it on every single day or you will get the “rebound redness”. I find that using the cream one day, then taking 2 days off of it, then using it, then 2 days off., etc. works PERFECTLY for my skin. Yes my two main triggers (exercise and alcohol)still give me redness in the moment, but I know that afterwards I can clear up my face. I am in control of my redness and my flushing in every other situation. I finally have clear skin. People no longer ask me if I got a sunburn or say I’m blushing. I have been using it for 4 months and have been very happy with it!!!
Grandma | 65-74 | On medication for 1 to 6 months | Patient
For a few years, I tried to cover the facial redness with makeup. Finally went to a Dermatologist to get help. Mervaso is very expensive when you are on Medicare and is not covered. I was able to obtain a price reduction card online and paid about $80 which is still high for me, but I was getting desperate for redness relief. I am happy with results so far. I have been using Mirvaso for about a month now. I apply when I first get up in mornings to give redness time to subside before applying makeup. I now use only a little powder. I know if I eat spicy food or have anything steaming hot like hot coffee, cocoa or bowl of soup, there will be itching and redness regardless if Mirvaso has been used or not, so I avoid these. Also, if I get hot or stay out in sun, there will be redness. Using a little common sense goes a long way. I will continue using Mirvaso as my facial redness has been so bad, I would not leave the house unless absolutely necessary. I feel free and more confident now. Thank you MIRVASO!

i just applied today and presto — very effective for me so far! I have rosacea and melasma no acne. Sometimes my product for melasma irriatates my skin.
Anonymous | 55-64 | Female | On medication for 6 months to less than

I am very satisfied with Mirvaso, but only after I started diluting it in my daily sunscreen. Before, when I used it straight from the tube — even with just using a tiny amount — I looked like a ghost. Now I dilute it in sunscreen and only use it every other day or so, and I’m much happier with the result. This method also makes this VERY expensive drug last longer. Like most drugs, it’s ridiculous how much it costs…

Oral Minocycline (Akamin)

With these types of acne, we tend to see inflamed bumps, some of them with an overlying white cap. These are called papules and pustules. Inside these bumps, there are inflammatory white blood cells that substantially contribute to the problem with their inflammatory properties, including the release of proteins that further worsen inflammation. Below are some actual customer reviews for Minocycline:
Anonymous January 21, 2013
“I have used this medication successfully for years. Initially, I used it daily for a few weeks, then tapered down to 3 times a week, then only 3 days in a row for flare-ups. I haven’t used any for 3 years until just recently when I had a flare-up. After one dose, the redness decreased and there were no new pustules. The only side effect has been a yeast infection when I take higher doses, i.e., twice a day for 5-7 days, but I have not found that I need to do that. I can usually take 50 mg once a day for 3 days, then I take a dose every other day for 3 days. By then the pustules have resolved and there is no yeast infection.”
OzTra… Taken for less than 1 month July 20, 2016
“As I live in Australia minocycline is cheap – it only costs $10 for 60 pills. I was diagnosed with papulopustular rosacea by a dermatologist. I’d always had a slight redness on the cheeks and slight redness under the skin of my nose but over a 6 week period many tiny pustules emerged and the redness got worse. Went to a dermatologist and he gave me the diagnosis and prescribed Soolantra indicating that it would take weeks/months to work. I didn’t want to wait that long so I did extensive research on the internet and made the decision to ignore him and go to a GP and go on Minocycline 2 days later. Best decision I ever made. The Minocycline at 50mg a day made the pustules go away in only 2 weeks and the redness has significantly decreased.”
Cali… Taken for less than 1 month March 17, 2016
“My rosacea after 40 flared up the worst I’ve ever seen small pustules started on the left side of my cheek spreading and covering my whole entire face except for my nose down to my neck and facial swelling around the eyes. All my flare-ups is always associated with itching, stinging and crawling feeling on my face. My doctor put me on Minocycline 100 MG twice a day and after 2 days I seen major results small pustules disappeared quickly and itching stop. I am a African-American with rosacea.”
Anonymous December 28, 2009
“I have had Rosacea since I was 18. I am now 48, I have tried a few different medicines. This is the first that has improved my skin to the condition it was in before Rosacea. I have not had any side effects from this drug. I give it a 10.”

Had untreated rosacea for about 6 months before seeing derm and having it diagnosed. Tried metrogel and ALL symptoms cleared within 3 days! noticed huge difference on day 2. Miracle drug for me. And super cheap too! Wish I knew about this 6 months ago. Cannot recommend enough.

Prescribed for early onset rosacea, never had skin problems in my younger years other than a pimple here and there, I noticed little bumps on forehead and cheeks at 39 and just thought adult acne, seen derm and diagnosed rosacea, prescribed the 1% gel and started seeing results in just two days!!! I was worried based off other reviews, I was lucky to have insurance coverage with only $15 copay. Overall, I am satisfied with results.
Red in the face | 55-64 | Male | On medication for 1 to 6 months |
I have had rosacea for years. I have kept it under control with an off the shelf product called prosacea. During a recent flare up I had happened to be at my doctors for another matter. She noticed my face and prescribed Metrogel. It was useless for me. It made no difference. I even tried, for 3 weeks, on only half my face, and I could see no difference between the two sides. At $140 a tube (Canadian), it was a big waste of money.
rickem8 | 65-74 | On medication for 1 to 6 months | Patient
I had a red/purple nose with acne as well as a red (rashd) forehead and cheeks. The results were immediate…I no longer have skin problems. I wash my face in the shower with water only…and apply Metrogel cream right after. I am male and very happy with the results.

Further, the intervention has also been shown to have fewer side effects on the patients. Isotretinoin is a highly successful rosacea treatment when taken as prescribed. It functions by shrinking sebaceous gland size, lowering sebum excretion, controlling cell division, and lowering keratinization. Accutane (isotretinoin) “My rosacea got progressively worse in my late twenties. After seeing several different dermatologists and trying various medications and topical treatments, Accutane is the only thing that has worked for me. I started taking 20mg daily and after approximately 4 months gradually reduced to 20mg every 3/4 days. I now hardly ever get any spots at all and my skin condition is 100 times better! I know it comes with risks, but it has truly been life-changing for me personally, so far outweighs the other risks. Reducing stress was also a major contributing factor, I believe. Although it’s hard not to be in the vicious cycle of stress when you check your face 1000 times a day! I used to spend hours and hours looking at this forum and across the Internet in desperation looking for something that might work and some reassurance from others that I’m not the only one battling this miserable condition. I just hope this helps anyone know they’re not alone!”

Accutane (isotretinoin) “I have been on this drug about four times in my life. In my 20s, I went on it twice for mild to moderate acne that made me acne-free with perfect skin for 20 years. Now in my 40s, I went on it twice for papulopustular rosacea. It was a total cure and leads to stunning skin. It also acts as a wrinkle eraser, which is something that the media is too afraid to talk about publicly. This drug is highly recommended. Yes, it dries your lips, so what? If you want perfect skin, it’s worth it.”
Carrier Taken for less than 1 month August 7, 2019
Accutane (isotretinoin) “Have Rosacea since my early 20s. After 10 years of my doctor acting like I was complaining about nothing, I eventually went to a skin specialist who prescribed Rosex. Symptom-free for 12 years – when it stopped working. Tried Soolantra, Miravaso, oral antibiotics, it was time for Accutane. My Rosacea affects my nose. Very oily skin, occasional spots, general redness, and flushing. I’m one week in – no side effects. I’m on day 7. The ‘gets worse before it gets better’ thing hasn’t happened yet. Flushing is 70% better. Spots have eased right back – by 70%. General redness down maybe 50%. Oiliness maybe 20% improvement so far. I put off going on this medication out of concern about side effects. I’m glad I went ahead – Rosacea is a nightmare that was literally ruining my life. I was desperate. Hope the improvements continue.”

Accutane (isotretinoin) “Four years, dozens of approaches. ONE solution: Accutane. You name it: Pulse Dye Laser, Metronidazole, Ivermectin, Mirvaso, Doxycycline… plus dozens of ‘I heard this works great’ attempts. Then I got the guts to ignore the ‘don’t try Accutane’ reviews and try it, and it’s been nothing short of a miracle from the heavens. Sure, I have a little chapped lips while I am on my 6-month regimen, but that’s easily fixed with lip balms. But when this 6 months is over, I will be cured PERMANENTLY. Stop everything you’re doing now and get Accutane. It’s a life changer.”
Beach… Taken for 10 years or more December 30, 2019
Accutane (isotretinoin) “I went on accutane for rosacea after about 3-5 years of trying antibiotics and metronidazole and any other prescription or OTC cream or health care remedy that I could find. I ended up with an allergy to one antibiotic and having 2 other antibiotics that no longer work for me. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on scams that I prayed would work and did nothing. The damage to your self esteem is incredible, walking around with pimples the size of Texas that have 5 to 8 heads and feeling like hiding in a closet all day. Accutane was a life changer! I started with 1 pill a day, then down to every second day and then stayed for years on 1 pill every 5 days. I went from almost constant breakouts to none and it has also helped with reducing the redness as well. I’ve been off accutane now for a month, but I will go back on in a heartbeat if I break out again. I’ve never had a single side effect, and feel that the plus side of using accutane far outweighs the negative.”

Works amazingly well
This product works more quickly and effectively than the prescription creams I’ve been getting through my dermatologist! In just a few days, it minimized the redness and bumps — and it doesn’t leave a greasy film on the skin. I do notice a slight sulfur odor, but that is minimal compared to the many benefits of this product. I use it on my chest, below the neck, so I wish it came in a larger size — as it does go quickly if you use it twice a day on larger areas. Overall, a fantastic product — and not easy to find in the drugstores

Prosacea, I Love You!
This product has worked really well for me. My rosacea has been getting worse and worse with more frequent outbreaks for the last 6 months or so. I was just about to break down and buy a really expensive serum when I ran across this product. It has cleared my rosacea right up. Besides clearing up my red, raw patches, I don’t have any dry, rough patches anymore either. I used to have to literally scrape the dry thick patches of skin off of my chin, eyebrows and from around my nose every day leaving my face looking red and raw. I have always used an excellent moisturizer but had the problem of flaking and peeling skin in the problem areas even with that moisturizer until Prosacea. Now my skin looks as wonderfully hydrated as it actually is! I have been using Prosacea every day under my normal skin care routine and within 3 days of use my skin was dramatically improved. I have been hiking, exercising, been out in the sun…all the no-no’s for rosacea and I have not had any breakouts since using Prosacea. I hope this product is always around…couldn’t live without it now! I am going to buy a few more Of these just to have on hand.
UPDATE: Just wanted to add that I have been using this product for quite a while now and still find it as wonderful as the first time I tried it. NOT ONE rosacea outbreak since I have been using it and I have been out in the sun a lot this summer (something that in the past would cause me pain and misery). I am so incredibly happy with this product. I believe you should try it despite some negative reviews because the price is cost effective enough to try without breaking the bank even if it doesn’t work for you, but if it does…you will be so happy, trust me! I’d give it a million stars if I could.

I actually found that this gel which is a sulfur based product did help flare-ups on my face. It’s available without prescription and relatively cheap, so for me a good alternative to the cream my Dr wants me to buy is over $80! I think this product works best on mild to moderate rosacea that hasn’t progressed beyond the standard flushing symptoms. Certainly more advanced stages of this disease must be controlled by a Dr care plan. I also recommend the Eucerine daily lotion (has a green tint) and I really like the creamy rich Eucerin night cream.

Best product I’ve used on my face
I started using this because my prescription from the dermatologist ran out and it was a few months before I could get an appointment. I read the reviews and bought this to tide me over. It works better for me than the prescription. I think this is the best my skin has looked since before I had kids! Highly recommend it. I hope it works for you like it worked for me!

Works great… works fast…Wonderful product
I have what seems to go between mild to moderate Rosacea. I am in my mid 50’s and it just came on within the past 6 months… I tried antibiotics internal and also a topical cream. The cream just seemed to make it worse. So I changed my diet just a bit by making certain I drink Kefir every day. I thought the probiotics might help and also make certain I eat fresh fruit every day. Those two things really helped… however my skin was still bumpy, red, and sore. I saw this product and decided to give it a try and I was amazed after the first application what a difference it made to my skin. I am very happy. I still have some redness and bumps. I just received the product this past Friday. That is how quickly it started to work.
Also, and most of you who suffer from Rosacea probably know this… try your best to wash you face with cold water. I tend to splash warm water on my face when I am in the shower and wow… Does that make a difference.. Really I think I could scare kids, it looks so bad. Suffering with Rosacea is new to me… so if anyone has any other ideas and/or helpful hints please feel free to reach out to me.. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Can’t tell if it made any difference at all
My rosacea manifests with redness and “adult acne.” I’ve used Finacea successfully, but it’s so expensive I decided to give the prosacea a try. I used nothing for three weeks, then used Prosacea on one side of my face, Finacea on my nose (which had the most acne), and plain moisturizer (Vanicream) on the other side of my face. After 4 weeks, my nose was clear of acne, and both sides of my face had some improvement but were not perfect. Nothing helped the coloration, but at least my skin was smooth and not as hard.
As others have said, everyone’s rosacea manifests differently. After this test, I’ll probably stick to the less expensive plain moisturizer and supplement it with Finacea when my acne flares up, but the Prosacea seemed to work just well enough that I’d recommend giving it a try if a simple moisturizer isn’t working for you.

The Best Treatment For Me
Normally I don’t take the time to write reviews of anything, but this product has changed my mind. I am a 57-year-old man and have had rosacea my entire adult life. It started out as acne when I was a teenager, then progressed to the rosacea stage later on, with much less acne. I have tried oral antibiotics, gels, lotions, and all of these were dermatologist prescribed. I even tried Murad products. Some treatments improved my complexion a little, some made my rosacea flare up even worse. When I saw Prosacea and discovered it was available without a prescription I decided to give it a try, too. Well…what a surprise. After just a few days the redness was diminished, and after almost a month, my rosacea symptoms were all but history. I just can’t believe it. I don’t know what’s in that stuff, but it works for me. I am completely satisfied with it. There is no odor (at least to my nose), no greasiness as with some ointments. In fact, after applying it seems to tighten and smooth everything a little, and I have found that I receive all the benefits even using it once daily, in the morning. I suppose if I used it twice daily as the directions state I would probably have even better results. I guess I just wanted to make the tube last longer. I wish they would make it in a larger size, then I may be more apt to use it more often, even though I don’t really need to. My verdict is: if you have any symptoms of rosacea, give this a try and see if it doesn’t improve your complexion quickly. Thanks, Prosacea!
Here is a follow up to my original review: I have been using Prosacea for well over four years now and my complexion is still looking great. I only use it every other day now–in the mornings–and that seems to be often enough to keep the redness away. I’m obviously still very satisfied with it, and I hope it will work as well for you.

Improving T2 Rosacea
I suffer from Type 2 Rosacea and have been using this twice daily for two weeks. I haven’t noticed much change in my redness yet but there is a slight improvement in my skin texture and no new red pustules have surfaced. It can take up to 6 weeks to see a real improvement but I’m happy so far with what I’m seeing. I find the texture to be a bit tacky when it initially dries but this goes away after a few minutes. It also plays well with my other products. I found putting it on over my moisturizer for the first week helped to minimize initial irritation (which was just some mild tingling and itching). Shipping to Canada took about five/six weeks, which I was expecting after reading other reviews. Yes, I recommend this product. Click here for more customer reviews.

This product has been a lifesaver for me. I always had very clear skin up until I developed a “maskne” that just wouldn’t budge no matter what I used. After seeing this product on social media and doing further research I thought I would give it a go and I haven’t looked back. I use a small amount every morning and night and I noticed a difference within the first week of using it. The texture of the acne changed and they are much less visible. Yes this product does pill but if you only use a small amount and don’t rub it in too vigorously it won’t pill as much. I will never let myself run out of this product! Yes. I recommend this product.

I have hyperpigmentation as a result of my hormonal acne, and I have been using this product for a couple of months now, but have not noticed a significant improvement in my hyperpigmentation or active acne. With that being said, I also did not experience any sensitivity or reaction to the product. The lotion also pills a little, so it’s probably best to put it on as the last step in your skincare routine. I know this product works amazingly for some people, but unfortunately it did not live up to the hype for me. Now, I’m using the Finacea brand of azelaic acid, and I like that one much better than Azclear. Yes ,I recommend this product.

If you’re ordering this from the United States expect it to take at least two months to get to you. That’s a bit ridiculous because this product takes a long time to work. Otherwise it’s a good product, a creamy, white, non-irritating lotion, which disappears with application. It’s a bit thick so it can leave a residue if you rub it into your skin too much. No complaints after having used it for a week and haven’t yet noticed any improvements in acne or overall skin texture, but it’s supposed to work with prolonged use, so I’ll continue to use it. Yes,I recommend this product.

I love this product for dealing with post acne healing. It helps reduce inflammation and also works well to reduce pigmentation. I wouldn’t use this on white head pimples, this is the product to use for rosacea + post acne recovery once the healing work begins. It is safe to use during pregnancy and works well with my vitamin c products. We are very lucky that we can get 20% azelaic acid in Australia as you need a prescription in other countries to get this high of a percentage. I use this as a spot treatment and it sinks in easily, playing well with the other ingredients. With regular use, Azclear reduces the severity, inflammation duration of these ugly bumps. It also reduces the frequency of flare-ups. Yes, I recommend this product.

Azelaic acid is not very common in products compared to other acids like glycolic or lactic acid but by no means nowhere near as effective. Azclear can help with acne, pigmentation and Roseaca. I myself use it for acne and pigmentation and it has shown a difference and my husband uses it for redness and again has shown a difference to him too. It can feel a little drying on the skin so I like to apply it after any water based serums and then use a moisturizer on top (It can ball on the skin at times). It is readily available at chemist direct and a really good price. Yes,I recommend this product.

CAN YOU ORDER MEDICATIONS DIRECTLY FROM CANADA, AUSTRALIA, THE U.K, AND OTHER COUNTRIES?
In most circumstances, it’s illegal for people who live in the U.S. to buy medications from other countries if the drugs are not approved by the FDA, the U.S. federal agency that oversees drug safety.
Please note that only medications that can be legally prescribed in the United States may be imported for personal use,” according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. “Be aware that possession of certain substances may also violate state laws. As a general rule, the FDA does not allow the importation of prescription drugs that were purchased outside the United States.” The FDA says this is because it can’t guarantee that the drugs are safe, legitimate and effective.
All medications sold in the U.S. have to meet the agency’s standards. Other countries, like Canada, also require medications to get approval by their version of the FDA before becoming available to the public. This also applies to pet medication. However, the FDA notes that there are instances when someone might be given the OK to import medication from another country into the U.S. for personal use:
- If the medication isn’t to treat a serious condition and has no known significant health risk, such as over the counter medications.
- If the medication is to treat a serious condition and there are no effective treatments available in the U.S. (either commercially or clinically).
- The medication in question isn’t sold or promoted in the U.S. and the drug “doesn’t present an unreasonable risk.
- However, you must provide in writing that the medication is for personal use, and either provide the name and address of the doctor treating you with the medication in the U.S. or provide “evidence” that the medication is to continue treatment begun in another country.
- If the medication is to treat a serious condition in your pet, get a letter from the licensed veterinarian treating the animal. Again, remember that importing medications from other countries into the U.S. is illegal and exceptions would be on a case-by-case basis.
- Speak with your doctor and contact the FDA and U.S. Customs if you have questions

What If I Don’t Have Health Insurance And /Or Can’t Afford Expensive Rosacea Treatment Medications, Should I Try To Get It Filled By An Online Pharmacy?
Yes, it’s possible to get a prescription filled by a legitimate online pharmacy, but it’s important to take steps to ensure your safety. Some signs of a safe online pharmacy include:
(1). Licensing
The pharmacy is licensed with a state board of pharmacy. You can check the pharmacy’s license in the state’s board of pharmacy license database using the FDA’s BeSafeRx website. The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy can also tell you if a pharmacy is licensed and in good standing.
(2). Prescription requirements
The pharmacy requires a prescription from a licensed doctor, usually by mail. If they accept a fax copy, they will call your doctor to verify it.
(3). Other requirements
The pharmacy may ask for a detailed medical history. They should also have a licensed pharmacist on staff to answer questions.
(4). Website
The pharmacy’s website should clearly state their payment, privacy, and shipping fees. They should also use secure or encrypted website connections for transactions. Some sites may also carry a seal of approval from Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites (VIPPS).
(5). Do Your Homework
Do Your Homework Before Ordering Prescription Drugs Online
Many online pharmacies are legitimate. But, not all Websites that offer prescription drugs can be trusted. Some are not pharmacies at all. With that in mind, it is very important that you take steps to help ensure your own safety when deciding to use an online pharmacy. First, make sure the online pharmacy you are considering is licensed in the state or country where it operates. The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy can tell you whether an online pharmacy in the U.S. is licensed and in good standing. Some online pharmacy sites carry a seal of approval from Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites, or VIPPS.
(6). Use Online Pharmacies From Overseas Only If They Require A Valid Prescription
Online pharmacies are subject only to the laws and regulations of the countries where they are based. For example, in Canada and Australia, a valid prescription must be supplied before the medication is dispensed. However, in Mexico, many prescription drugs are sold over the counter and can be ordered over the Internet without a prescription.
Conclusion
Pharmacists and other health professionals should discourage patients from buying medications from online overseas pharmacies. Likewise, patients should not order any medication that was not prescribed by a licensed US health professional. If patients are insistent about using Internet pharmacies, they should be counseled to use only pharmacies that have received the VIPPS designation and require a legal prescription before dispensing any medication. However, healthcare professionals should be aware that many consumers are using online pharmacies simply to bypass the prescription process, and not to save money

- Verify that a prescription is required. Any pharmacy that waives the requirement of a prescription is not to be trusted. So, call and ask if a prescription is needed. If the answer is “no,” don’t use that pharmacy.
- Look at the pharmacy license. Do not purchase medicines from any pharmacy that does not have a valid pharmaceutical license for the state to which it will sell.
- Scrutinize the website address. Does it end in “.pharmacy”? Does it have the Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites (VIPPS) seal? Both are indicative of legitimate pharmacies.
- Make sure the pharmacy has a physical address. Most fraudulent online pharmacies conceal their locations. Reputable ones never do.
- Double-check verification resources. Who funds them? What are the qualifications of those that analyze pharmacies? How are the analyses done? Read the websites thoroughly. Then, look for news stories and other public information about them.
- Check a few verification sites. Your best bet is to check the pharmacy you want to use on several sites, including PharmacyChecker. If the reports differ, dig deeper.
Why Should I Buy Prescription Drugs From Another Country
Some people may buy prescription drugs from other countries because they want to save money, as prescription drugs can be cheaper in other countries. For example, in Europe, drug prices are negotiated, so the exact same drugs can cost much less than in the United States. In countries with single-payer healthcare, the government can also negotiate lower prices with drug companies
About 2 Million Americans Purchase Prescription Drugs Outside The United States
Yeah that’s right! About 2 million Americans purchase their medications from outside the country. That’s why you and your family need to protect yourselves. and need to be extra cautious when buying medicine online. Some drug websites operate legally and offer convenience, privacy, security and guarantees for purchasing drugs. Not all websites are the same. The United States Food and Drug Administration warns that there are many unscrupulous online pharmacies that claim to sell prescription drugs at exorbitant prices, and with no prescription. Internet-based pharmacies often sell illegal, counterfeit, or dangerous drugs that are not subject to the protection of a licensed pharmacy.
Many unscrupulous online pharmacies use bogus “marketplaces” to impersonate licensed pharmacies or trick you into thinking their drugs come from countries with high safety standards. But the drugs they sell can be done anywhere, with little care or concern for safety and effectiveness. Additionally, these drugs may be counterfeit, expired, or dangerous to you and your family. How do you know if an online pharmacy is operating legally? The FDA’s BeSafeRx page provides resources and tools to help you make safe and informed decisions when purchasing prescription drugs online.
The amount of people purchasing prescription medications outside the U.S. could go up with more people being unemployed and uninsured.
Buying prescription drugs from outside the United States became more common with millions of Americans unemployed and uninsured because of the coronavirus pandemic several years ago. About two million Americans — 1.5% of adults — purchased medications outside the country to save money on medical costs, according to a study by researchers at the University of Florida published online in JAMA
Researchers found that older adults, immigrants, and people with inadequate health insurance are most likely to turn to online pharmacies or drug stores outside American borders, where medications often cost a fraction of the domestic price. They say the pandemic, which has hit seniors and minorities hard and has financially strained thousands of families, could lead to more people turning to international pharmacies.
Why is it that prescription drugs are cheaper in other countries?
The United States spends some of the lowest amounts of its total healthcare on prescription drugs relative to other developed nations. But Americans also pay some of the highest prices for those drugs, relative to the rest of the world. In order to pay for a monthly prescription for Nexium, the popular acid reflux drug, an insurer in the United States pays, on average, $215 per customer. Yet the same prescription in the Netherlands costs about one-tenth less, just $23. In countries where there is single-payer healthcare — in other words where the government pays for most healthcare costs — those governments have significant negotiating power with drug companies to lower prices.
What is the main reason that uninsured citizens of the United States do not have insurance?
Why are people uninsured? Despite policy efforts to improve the affordability of coverage, many uninsured people cite the high cost of insurance as the main reason they lack coverage. In 2022, 64% of uninsured nonelderly adults said that they were uninsured because the cost of coverage was way too high.
Why Are Prescription Drugs More Expensive in The United States Than in Other Countries?
Key things to remember:
- Drug makers set the prices, which makes medications more expensive.
- Companies use the drug patent system to limit competition and keep prices high.
- A lack of research on drug comparisons can lead to fewer low-cost options on the market.
